100mM PMSF Solution is a widely used biochemical reagent and an irreversible, nonspecific inhibitor of serine proteases, including trypsin, chymotrypsin, thrombin, papain, and acetylcholinesterase.
PMSF (phenylmethanesulfonyl fluoride) is also known as phenylmethylsulfonyl fluoride, α-toluenesulfonyl fluoride, or benzylsulfonyl fluoride. It has a molecular formula of C₇H₇FO₂S, a molecular weight of 174.19, and a CAS number of 329-98-6.
Application
This product is recommended for use with lysates, such as the Easy-to-use RIPA Lysate series and Western/IP Cell Lysate series, to effectively prevent protease degradation. It is commonly used in downstream applications, including WB, IP, and ChIP experiments.
Important Product Information
PMSF inhibits serine proteases by sulfonating the hydroxyl residues of serine at their active sites. It can also inhibit papain and mammalian acetylcholinesterase, which are cysteine proteases, but does not inhibit metalloproteinases, most cysteine proteases, or aspartic proteases. The effective concentration of PMSF is 0.1-1 mM. As a low-toxicity alternative to diisopropylfluorophosphate (DFP), PMSF is widely used.
PMSF is unstable in water, with a half-life as short as 35 minutes under certain conditions, such as alkaline pH. It is recommended to add PMSF to lysis buffers or other aqueous solutions immediately before use. For greater stability in aqueous solutions, AEBSF is a suitable alternative.
Storage and Stability
Store frozen, dry, and sealed at -20°C, away from light. Valid for 1 year. Store at 2-8°C for up to 1 month.
