Background:
Carboxyethyl-Cysteine (CEC) is a novel post-translational modification occurring on cysteine residues of proteins. This modification is formed by covalently attaching a carboxyethyl group to the thiol group (-SH) of cysteine, generating a stable thioether linkage.
